Developing emotionally healthy leaders in the community
Inspired particularly by our guiding principles of collaboration and stewardship, Global Leadership Foundation has, since its establishment, consistently provided pro bono and low bono development support to communities, community-based groups and organisations and not-for-profits. Our efforts aim at developing, strengthening and transforming leadership capability in those settings, often working with people who have been playing leadership roles without even recognising that they are doing so.
Community-based leaders hold critical roles. They deserve the opportunity to lead well
We have worked with many community leaders over many years
These have ranged from board members of village-based organisations in the Solomon Islands to local community leadership groups in Australia, from park rangers around the world to leaders within Australia’s First Nations communities.
Many community leaders ‘fall into’ leadership roles because they have a natural inclination to put up their hand and ‘take charge’. Some don’t even see themselves as leaders. By helping them to increase their emotional health, we are able to help these people be even more effective at their important roles, while also preparing them for difficult or challenging situations they may find themselves in.

We bring our skills, knowledge and experience to ensure the program:
- reflects the needs of the community in which it operates
- offers local learning opportunities
- Identifies and includes local leaders from all areas of the community
- identifies and aligns regional topics with state, national and global trends
- builds capacity and capability of participants to lead for the future
- connects participants to local, regional, nationwide and global networks of interest.
We are also invited to assess and review community leadership programs as well as become involved through presentations and speaking engagements.
Opening Doors – a community leadership program for social inclusion
The Opening Doors community leadership program for social inclusion has been running in Melbourne’s south-east since 2009. This fortnightly program in Box Hill aims to increase connections and community leadership skills, and is open to all who work, live or play in or near the areas of Whitehorse, Monash or Manningham. The program is provided free to the lucky community members who successfully win a place on it.
Celebrating our work with park rangers
Our connection to the community of rangers goes back to the early days of Global Leadership Foundation itself. Our very first leadership experience, back in 2006, was ‘Turtle Camp’ at Mapoon in Queensland, where we worked alongside two local rangers. We ultimately supported them in their work for 6 years. Via various subsequent work we eventually hosted a workshop for the Association of Rangers and Conservationists Victoria (ARCV)
