The current national debate in Australia around an Indigenous Voice to Parliament takes on added significance for us as we approach this year’s Ikara-Ediacara Leadership Experiences in May and July.

The aspiration of the Voice, as described in the ‘Uluru Statement from the Heart‘, is a ‘fair and truthful relationship’ between the people of Australia and First Nations Australians. This can only be achieved with greater awareness amongst the wider Australian population of First Australians’ culture and their strong and age-old connection to the land.

The Ikara-Edicara experience provides a unique opportunity for leaders to build their own awareness by walking the country together with members of the Adnyamathanha people, traditional custodians of the greater Flinders Ranges area. There are two separate opportunities during the experience to sit together with both traditional owners and local pastoralists who lease some of this land. You will learn about the perspectives of each of these groups and the connections they have built over many years.

This makes the Ikara-Ediacara Leadership Experience a rare opportunity to learn, through the eyes of its current generations, about an ancient civilisation that has continued its stewardship of this land for more than 60,000 years, while you will also gain an understanding of the intricate relationship between the Adnyamathanha people and some of the pastoralists of the area.

After two popular Ikara–Ediacara: Past, Present And Future Leadership Experiences in 2022, we are looking forward to the upcoming 2023 editions of this Experience. Limited places remain. For more information and to reserve your place, please visit the event pages for May 2023 and July 2023.
