Alice Springs – the heart of Australia – was the setting for the inaugural B Corp Champions Retreat for Australia/New Zealand from May 3rd to 5th 2017. Over 118 people – including one of B Lab’s founders, Bart Houlahan and B Lab partners from across the globe – came together to explore the question “What we can do together that we can’t do apart?” as well as get to know each other and how we are using our businesses as a force for good.

With red sand, blue sky, warm days and cold nights as the backdrop, the group also spent time better understanding social enterprises in Alice, the impact of the country on the way things are done and the hidden costs of government policies and processes on the community.

We had the privilege of facilitating Open Space around the central question of the event. It was great to see how quickly people’s passion and interests around this topic were translated into genuine projects, both local and global, that could never have been achieved alone. Open Space was so successful that the organisers of the European B Corp Summit at the end of June are looking at how they can use this methodology as part of their program.

We also took time at the end of the week to take leaders into Eastern Arrerente country with Frank Ansell and Sue Gregory for the Spirit of Leadership Experience – which you can read about here. Our next one will be held from September 15 to 18, 2017. You can register your interest here.
