As you type in ‘how to be a successful leader’ in your search engine you’ll see page after page of tools, techniques and checklists of steps to follow in order to transform into the almost perfect leader. In general, most of what is offered focuses on and encourages you to build a set of desirable skills and competencies – or “horizontal capability”

While it is important to have these capabilities, most practices fail to address a deeper and more critical part of leadership growth, which we call “vertical development”.

Vertical development is about understanding the way in which you lead and engage others and the impact you have on them. Without having a better grasp of what drives and motivates you and how you react in certain situations, you may have all the skills and competencies you need, but fail to use them effectively as you become reactive and defensive when triggered by particular people or situations.

Assessing and learning about your emotional health levels through the Global Leadership Profile™ provides the insights you need to develop vertically. As your emotional health increases you become more resilient, more able to make constructive choices, and better understand others perspectives All of this will positively affect how you relate to and engage others across all aspects of your life.

The Global Leadership Profile™  – created in 2009 – is a 360° assessment and feedback process that measures a combination of internal thinking and external behaviour, from your own perspective and from the point of view of others. This type of quality feedback and self-assessment is what you need to establish your starting point; what kind of a leader you currently are and the areas that may need some improvement so that you can make sure you’re building on the solid foundations of a great leader.

How the Global Leadership Profile™ Assessment works

The 360° assessment is an internet-based survey tool that allows you to rate yourself and for others to rate you against the Global Leadership Profile statements.   The feedback from the survey is confidential.

Who is it for?

Leaders, coaches, trainers, internal HR and external consultants who:

  • are committed to learning more about their own leadership capability and emotional health and translating that with others
  • appreciate the opportunity to experience quality learning and application in a group environment
  • can bring and share their own experience and ideas with others in a collaborative way

What are the benefits of this 360° feedback?

Feedback from those who work closely with you can be a valuable source of information that is not ordinarily accessible. When asked to rate the Global Leadership Profile™ Behaviours through this process, other people can be accurate and balanced, because they are more likely to see your behaviour from a fresh point of view and because your behaviour has an impact on them.

How was this tool developed?

This tool was developed by Global Leadership Foundation over a number of years. It incorporates emotional health levels, above- and below-the-line and the nine distinctions identified for an emotionally healthy leader.

Who will rate me?

Apart from the rating you complete on yourself, we would like you to invite your manager, at least four of your peers, and at least four direct reports to complete the survey as well. If you do not have direct reports, it is recommended that you select a group of at least four others with whom you work closely.

How will the ratings be done?

Ratings will be completed electronically via a secure website. You and your selected raters will be asked to complete the survey via an email that will contain a link to a secure website.

How will I receive my feedback?

The feedback data collected from these surveys will be delivered to you in a report format and debriefed by the Global Leadership Foundation team.
